Google released My Tracks – GPS Android Application

Google released the source code of a program called Android phone GPS My Tracks, which allows people to register where they were, log into Google Docs trip and your online maps.

“You can expect My Tracks to be better than ever with the hope that receive contributions from other developers, as well as what the work of many applications side by side with my subjects will be drafted,” said Google engineer Rodrigo Damazio a mailing list announced Friday. “For example, one could easily create an application for tracking fitness activities, geocaching, aviation, etc..”

Activity measurements, it is also the fans can assist in translation and the programmers could create spin-offs by which they could collect money if they wish, he added. The preferred software is governed by Google open source license, Apache License 2.0.

My Tracks allows people to track their location on a map, the software displays a series of details such as speed, average speed, higher altitude and distance traveled. Travel will be displayed on Google Maps, public or private, and statistics for each trip can be added to a spreadsheet from Google Docs. My Tracks allows you to save a trip as a journey I took geometry last May, and save the track log on Google Maps.

When the software is open source, anyone can see, modify and distribute its programming instructions underlying. Google uses lots of open source software originally created by others – the Linux operating system, MySQL database, and the WebKit browser engine, for example.

But part of his own free software and open source, including the operating system Android, Chrome Web browser, Chrome OS operating system based on the browser, and summer 2011, the software for the proposed new Google TV, which announced last week at the Google I/O conference.

Also at the conference, Google open source 18 sources for use in Web pages. And, more important, given the technical and legal barriers, Google has released royalty-free, open source software for Web video called Webm.

The version of open source software can significantly undermine the value of the assets of a company, it is difficult to license to others for a price and to allow potential competitors to use the software. But the movement may also have a strategic sense, for example, when an open source project can move forward in general terms a market for a company is interested in the mine or the owner of a competing software.

Flickr Web 2.0

Before the Web 2.0 or some refer to as Web 1.0, web applications are for the most monumental. Most web applications are the capabilities of HTML and characterized by the clumsy web page model. user experience was not pleasant most of the time. However, there have been some cases in certain web applications have been written entirely in Flash. Unfortunately, these applications have their own world alone and separated from the rest of the web. It was a very attractive site because of evidence that the request does not fall. Although momentarily brought joy to the user, sometimes, being the property has been very limited.

Suddenly, for the first time, Flash and AJAX elements have been merged into one seamlessly with the HTML page. It was then that Flickr has changed the course of development of web applications. Everything flowed and fit perfectly. This provoked a turning point for Web applications.
